Altera and Gidel Announce Stackable Development System

Designers Can Now Build Large Reconfigurable Systems with Gidel's New Stackable PROCSuperStar Stratix 80 Development Board

SAN JOSE, Calif., and EIN AYYALA, Israel, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Altera Corporation (NASDAQ:ALTR) and Gidel, an Altera Consultants Alliance Program (ACAP(R)) member, today announced the immediate availability of Gidel's stackable PROCSuperStar Stratix 80 development board for reconfigurable system development. Gidel's PROCSuperStar Stratix 80 development board is available with up to three Stratix(TM) EP1S80 FPGAs on each board and all the necessary hardware to build large reconfigurable systems. With the ability to stack up to seven boards for a total of 21 Stratix devices, the new Gidel development system is ideal for high-bandwidth, high-density applications such as SoC rapid prototyping, super computing, digital signal processing (DSP), imaging, machine vision, video processing, aerospace, and military systems.

"With our PROCSuperStar Stratix 80 board, customers can immediately begin the rapid prototyping of their high-bandwidth, high-density applications," said Reuven Weintraub, president and CEO of Gidel. "We are the first Altera ACAP partner to provide customers with a stackable development board that enables the building of large reconfigurable systems."

"Gidel's PROCSuperStar Stratix 80 board supports engineers' most stringent design requirements," said Mike Phipps, senior marketing manager of Altera's development kit program. "Expansion capabilities make Gidel's PROCSuperStar Stratix 80 board the perfect rapid prototyping board for customers designing system-level applications with Altera's high-performance Stratix FPGAs."

PROCSuperStar Development Board

The PROCSuperStar development board is an expandable, building-block type system that can stack up to seven boards. The Stratix devices are implemented on board from one to three devices. By using ultra high-performance connectors with shielded signals, and thousands of ground connection pins, Gidel ensures that its multiple board system performs electrically as if it is one board. Furthermore, due to the board's physical structure, the traces between the devices are shorter, providing a minimal connection delay.

Pricing and Availability

Gidel's PROCSuperStar Stratix 80 board is priced beginning at $7,995 and is available for order now from Gidel. More information about this product can be obtained on Gidel's web site at www.gidel.com.

About Stratix Devices

The Stratix device family is the industry's first family of production-qualified FPGAs built on a 0.13-micron, all-layer copper process and the winner of EDN magazine's 2002 Digital IC Innovation Award. Featuring embedded DSP blocks, embedded RAM blocks and support for leading-edge and emerging I/O standards, Stratix devices give designers the performance and densities they need to meet the challenges of high-bandwidth system design.
