National Semiconductor to Showcase High-Performance Analog Products for Professional and Broadcast Video at NAB 2008
What: National demonstrates its high-performance analog chip solutions at NAB
Where: Booth N1720 at Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada
When: April 14-17, 2008
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- National Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:NSM) will showcase its latest industry-leading analog-intensive video products for the professional and broadcast markets at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show, April 14-17, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nevada. National will conduct live demonstrations of its analog solutions, including a 3 Gbps (3G) serial digital interface (SDI) product family addressing the new Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) 424M specification, an analog video matrix switcher, a low-jitter video clock generator, and a low-noise audio buffer teamed with operational amplifiers (op amps) that deliver ultra-low distortion and high-fidelity performance.
National Broadcast Video Demonstrations -- Booth N1720
-- 3G/HD/SD-SDI Chipset: Demonstration of industry-best signal integrity
using National's low-jitter LMH0344 adaptive equalizer, LMH0356
reclocker and LMH0303 cable driver with cable detection in combination
with a high-speed interconnect. The demonstration, a test commonly
used to verify signal integrity in video routers, features a signal
generator driving a stressful 2.97 Gbps pathological source signal
into the input stage of National's 24-channel SDI matrix. The
recovered signal at the output is re-routed back to the input multiple
times in error-free iteration, illustrating the leading pathological
signal integrity performance of National's chipset.
-- 3G SDI Serializer and Deserializer: Demonstration of jitter
performance and flexibility of the industry's first discrete 3 Gbps
multi-rate SDI serializer and deserializer. The LMH0340 and LMH0341
products are demonstrated in dual link HD-SDI and single link 3G-SDI
modes interfacing with National's triple-rate (3G/HD/SD) SDI firmware
running on popular low-cost field-programmable gate array (FPGA)
devices. This demonstration system connects to a third-party board
hosting a Virtex-5 FPGA validating cross-platform compliance.
-- Analog Video Matrix Switcher: Using National's LMH6584 and LMH6585
wide-band 32 x 16 analog crosspoint switches, designers can increase
picture resolution to QXGA (2048 x 1536) and beyond in various
wideband video applications, including studio monitoring/production
video systems, conference room video systems, KVM systems and
wide-band routers and switches. The LMH6584/85 crosspoints provide 400
MHz, 2 Vpp large-signal bandwidth and a low channel-to-channel
crosstalk of -52 dBc at 10 MHz to improve picture clarity by
minimizing video artifacts and shadows from adjacent channels.
-- Video Clock Generator: Demonstration of National's low-jitter,
multi-rate video clock generator for video cameras, digital recorders
and video editing and post-production equipment. The device's
integrated phase-lock loops (PLLs) can synchronize the output clocks
to an analog timing reference from the LMH1981 multi-format video sync
separator or a digital timing reference from a SDI deserializer. The
external loop filter offers additional user configurability to
optimize jitter attenuation. With HD clock output jitter as low as 40
ps peak-to-peak, National's video clock generator can provide
reference clocks for video converters (ADC/DAC) and FPGA transceivers
to ensure 3G/HD/SD-SDI output jitter is in compliance with SMPTE
standards.
-- Headphone Amplifier: Featuring National's LME49600 low-noise buffer
and LME49720 low-distortion op amp, in a closed-loop configuration,
the headphone amplifier can drive as low as 32 Ohms with an
unparalleled total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) of 0.000035
percent. The LME49600 is well-suited as a headphone buffer, line drive
or output device for a low noise, low impedance power supply. The
LME49720 can be used for all signal path conditioning circuits and has
the lowest distortion of any op amp in the industry.
-- Audio DAC Preamplifier: Demonstration of National's complete
ultra-high-end analog signal path, including audio power supply
regulators, LME49713 current feedback audio op amp, LME49600 low-noise
buffer and LME49710 low-distortion, voltage-feedback audio op amp.
This Audio DAC delivers a pure signal path, enabling the sonic quality
of any input media to be heard without coloration or distortion.
