Powerful Debug Tool for ARM11 Derivative from Freescale

Universal Debug Engine 2.1 also now available for i.MX31 Multimedia Applications Processor

San Jose, September 2007 – In addition to optimized debug tools for various ARM7 and ARM9 derivatives, PLS Development Tools will also present, for the first time, at ARM Developers Conference, Booth #611,in Santa Clara, October 2-4 2007, the Universal Debug Engine (UDE) 2.1 for Freescale’s i.MX31 Multimedia Applications Processor, which is based on a standard ARM1136JF-S core.

The intuitive and configurable user interface of the UDE 2.1 provides i.MX31 users with unrestricted C/C++ support, a powerful symbol browser, freely configurable toolbars, extensive context related menus and HTML as description language for user specific windows. The use of standard script languages guarantees a high level of automation.

The i.MX31 supported task specific breakpoints can be used easily and comfortably by means of the UDE 2.1 user interface, which is optimized for this purpose. Beyond that, the extensive support of the integrated ETB/ETM unit of the i.MX31 ensures a particularly efficient program and date trace. The UDE supports visualization and configuration of the powerful peripheral modules at symbol level with text descriptions.

In combination with the pls Universal Access Device (UAD), download rates of up to 1MByte/s can be achieved with the UDE 2.1 via the JTAG interface. This not only allows designers of i.MX31 based multimedia applications an extremely fast Flash programming, but also short turnaround times. The Debug Communications Channel (DDC) of the JTAG interface is used for support of a debug terminal (Simulated I/O).

PLS Development Tools

PLS Development Tools is a branch office of the PLS Programierbare Logik & Systeme GmbH, located in Lauta, Germany. The PLS Programierbare Logik & Systeme GmbH was founded in 1990 by Thomas Bauch and Dr. Stefan Weisse. The company is among the worldwide leading suppliers of software debugging solutions and complete development tools for the 16-bit and 32-bit microcontroller families from Infineon Technologies and STMicroelectronics as well as a number of different ARM7/ARM9 derivatives. The innovative software architecture of the Universal Debug Engine (UDE) guarantees optimal conditions for the debugging of modern System-on-Chip (SoC) based systems. The complementary equipment family Universal Access Device (UAD), with transfer rates of up to 3.5 Mbytes per second, opens up a fully new dimension in data download speeds.
