Collaboration Between HCL and SNIA Will Help Promote Industry Standards and Assist in Storage Product Interoperability

Storage Networking World Fall 2006
Booth No. PP29

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HCL Technologies (HCL), a leading global IT services provider, in partnership with the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) today announced it is currently working on SNIA’s Conformance Test Suite Version 1.2.0 for Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S), as part of SNIA’s efforts to promote industry standards, simplify the management of heterogeneous storage networks and offer enterprises greater interoperability. SNIA uses the conformance test suite developed by HCL and other SNIA partners for certifying SMI-S provider implementations for conformance to the SMI-S standards, and has certified many leading networked storage products.

SNIA originally partnered with HCL in 2003 to develop the SNIA-CTP test suite, which covered server, array, fabric and switch profiles. SNIA then launched Version 1.0 in April 2004 and has continued its successful partnership with HCL to develop subsequent phases of SNIA-CTP, including the 1.0.2, 1.0.3 and 1.1.0 releases. These releases have covered many additional profiles, including fiber channel host bus adapter, in-band virtualization, storage library, as well as features such as remote self-certification.

“HCL is proud to be associated with SNIA and its quest to promote open standards,” said Sandeep Kishore, Vice President, Hi Tech, HCL. “We are glad to see that the SMI-S is being widely accepted among both storage vendors and users. These changes are expected to greatly increase the participation of the vendors in the SNIA-CTP program.”

“HCL’s significant contribution to the SNIA-CTP program since the beginning of the 2003 initiative and the company’s support at all critical milestones have been instrumental in faster adoption of the SMI-S Standard,” said Ed von Adelung, Chair, Interoperability Committee, SNIA.
