Agilent Technologies Introduces Oscilloscopes That Set Benchmark in Memory Depth, Signal Viewing

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 2005--
New Infiniium 8000 Series with Next-Generation MegaZoom Delivers Industry's Deepest Memory Capture, State-of-the-Art Display Technology

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today introduced four digital storage and mixed-signal oscilloscopes that combine superior signal viewing of the industry's deepest memory with advanced waveform analysis. Powered by Agilent's patented next-generation MegaZoom technology, the 600 MHz and 1 GHz Infiniium models also combine the deepest memory and highest number of integrated channels with industry-leading waveform viewing capability. For a limited time, customers may purchase a 1 GHz Infiniium 8000 Series MSO or DSO for the price of a 600 MHz model.

Next-generation MegaZoom technology enables designers of embedded systems to capture analog and digital signals over long time spans, easily view critical events in complex waveforms, and perform robust signal analysis, all with a single instrument. Next-generation MegaZoom provides a fast, responsive high-resolution XGA display system that provides the industry's deepest memory of up to 128 Mpts coupled with a dynamic 256 levels of color intensity in the Z-axis. In addition, the Z-axis provides designers a third-dimensional view of signal activity, thus delivering unmatched real-time insight into signal details.

"We are providing engineers with unprecedented mixed-signal capture and analysis power within one instrument," said Chris Witt, division marketing manager for Agilent's Design Validation Division. "In addition, the Infiniium 8000 Series oscilloscopes incorporate a new state-of-the-art display system, an award-winning user interface, and a powerful suite of application software."

Agilent's mixed-signal oscilloscopes (MSOs) provide up to 20 channels of time-correlated viewing and triggering with their tightly integrated four scope channels and 16 digital channels in the same acquisition system. This is needed for complex embedded designs that incorporate high-speed digital buses and 32-bit processors, and that require triggering on more than just two or four signals at a time. Agilent's MSOs retain the full functionality and usability of an oscilloscope and reduce the need for expensive multi-box solutions.

The Infiniium 8000 Series also offers several powerful software application suites for speeding mixed-signal debug in embedded designs. Current design trends include the integration of multiple circuit functions into a single FPGA, the proliferation of serial buses, and the evolution toward digital signal processing in RF applications. The Infiniium 8000 Series addresses these challenges with application solutions including FPGA dynamic probing, serial data analysis, and vector signal analysis software for flexible analysis and demodulation of wireless signals.

"Design complexity is on the rise with the incorporation of analog, faster digital, and RF-based circuitry in a single embedded design," said Galen Wampler, industry analyst at Prime Data. "Engineers need tools capable of handling these cross-domain issues in order to reduce debug time. The new Infiniium 8000 Series oscilloscopes tackle these cross-domain challenges head-on with their industry-leading deep memory, high-definition display, MSO models, and full suite of software analysis solutions."

The Infiniium 8000 Series oscilloscopes continue their ease-of-use legacy with the integration of standard touch-screen displays, thus allowing full operation of the oscilloscope without a mouse. The series features an open Windows XP Pro architecture with standard connectivity, including five USB 2.0 ports and both GPIB and LAN interfaces. One USB 2.0 port is located directly on the front panel for easy storage to USB mass storage devices.
