SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Stretch Inc. today announced that the Mentor Graphics Accelerated Technology Nucleus(R) PLUS real-time operating system (RTOS) now supports the Stretch(TM) S5000 family of software- configurable processors. The combination provides embedded designers with a comprehensive, high-performance real-time operating system for proper task scheduling and management required by compute-intensive applications such as high-end video and imaging, wireless base stations, and networking. "Our collaboration with Accelerated Technology demonstrates our customer commitment to providing the tools necessary for developing embedded applications and the fastest time-to-performance," said Joe Hanson, director of business development, Stretch. "Embedded system designers face increasingly complex issues that require high performance and flexibility. With the extensive middleware software support from Accelerated Technology, Nucleus PLUS provides the foundation for software-configurable processor based applications where high performance, time-to-market, and adaptability cannot be compromised." Stretch software-configurable processors combine the speed and efficiency of a DSP with the configurability of an FPGA and are programmed easily with standard C/C++ software development tools. There is no use of assembly language, thereby greatly simplifying application development. Designed to perform extremely well in any compute-intensive application, the processors achieve high performance by "crushing" software hot spots-sequences of operations that get executed many times-into single instructions. "We see configurable processing engines like the Stretch S5000 as a very good fit for the latest generation of compute-intensive embedded applications," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division. "Providing a combination of the many development tools in Nucleus PLUS, such as application profiling, with the software configurability of the Stretch processors enables embedded developers to optimize their compute-intensive applications quickly and efficiently." Pricing and Availability The Nucleus embedded software is sold with source code and without royalty fees. Licenses for the Nucleus software begin at $12,495.
