Top Semiconductor Makers, Including Freescale, Renesas and TSMC, To Participate in Global Sources' Embedded Systems, EDA & Test Conferences

HONG KONG, July 20 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Global Sources (NASDAQ:GSOL) has confirmed that top semiconductor companies including Freescale, Renesas and TSMC will take part in the fifth annual Embedded Systems Conference-Taiwan (ESC-Taiwan).

ESC-Taiwan will be held from July 27-28 at the Taipei International Convention Center along with the 13th annual Electronic Design Automation & Test-Taiwan Conference & Exhibition (EDA&T-Taiwan).

Mark Saunderson, president of Global Sources' Electronics Business Unit, said: "Taiwan's semiconductor industry is expected to generate US$37 billion in production revenue in 2005. It is Asia-Pacific's most important IC design industry, second only to the United States globally.

"ESC-Taiwan and EDA&T-Taiwan provide leading embedded systems suppliers and EDA tool providers with the opportunity to meet Taiwan's IC design community under one roof. They enable Taiwan designers to learn the latest technologies from the industry's key innovators."

Also confirmed to participate are Agilent Technologies, Ansoft, Cadence Design Systems, Cirrus Logic, IBM Taiwan, Mentor Graphics, Synopsys and Wind River.

More than 3,000 engineers expected to attend

Saunderson said: "Attendance at these events topped 3,000 last year. Pre-registration figures indicate this year's event is expected to top last year's record-breaking numbers of designers and technical managers."

Seventy-six percent of those who attended the last year's events were design or development engineers, 17 percent were engineering managers and 7 percent were test engineers.

In addition, most visitors played a strategic role in the decision-making process-83 percent of visitors at ESC-Taiwan 2004 were already using embedded systems or planning to do so. At EDA&T-Taiwan, 66 percent of visitors said they were planning to purchase EDA tools within the next 18 months.

Cadence Design Systems, IBM Taiwan and Sierra Design Automation among those to lead educational seminars

This year's seminar program provides Taiwan designers with the opportunity to learn new technologies direct from international technology vendors.

EDA&T-Taiwan seminars are scheduled to be hosted by EDA tool companies and distributors including ARC International, Cadence Design Systems, EE Solutions, EverCAD Software, IBM Taiwan, Maojet Technology, Mentor Graphics, PLD Applications, Sequence Design, Sierra Design Automation, Virage Logic and Wipro Technologies.

At ESC-Taiwan, seminars are scheduled to be hosted by embedded systems providers including Agilent Technologies, ARM, Freescale Semiconductor, National Instruments, Renesas Technology, SafeNet Taiwan, Spansion, Tektronix, Tensilica, TeraSoft and Wind River.

STMicroelectronics, Faraday Technology, Xilinx and others to lead discussion forums

Designers can also attend discussion forums featuring technology experts discussing the industry's hottest topics. The forum topics and schedules are:

"Designing video into tomorrow's consumer applications" -- Presenters will include executives from STMicroelectronics, Faraday Technology and MontaVista Software. July 27, 10:00 a.m.

"Design strategies for a globalized design environment" -- Speakers will include executives from Synopsys, Faraday Technology, Mentor Graphics and TSMC. July 27, 1:00 p.m.

"The future of processors for signal processing" -- Presented by Broadcom Corporation, Xilinx and MIPS Technologies and ARM. July 28, 10:00 a.m.

Event exhibition hours are 9:30 am to 5:00 p.m. For more information on ESC-Taiwan, please visit www.escasiaexpo.com . Full details on EDA&T-Taiwan are available in Chinese at www.taiwan.edatexpo.com and in English at www.english.taiwan.edatexpo.com .
